Abby and I have traveled to Norway, a country to the west of Sweden. (1) We took a flight to Oslo, Norway’s capital. (2) We flew into Oslo’s airport, Gardermoen, and took a 20 minute shuttle train to the center of the city. (8) When we got there, there was lots of snow. We saw a ton of snow plows clearing it out of the way on the roads. (7) It was about 5:30 when we got to town, so we went to lovely little restaurant to have middag, a meal eaten before dinner. Abby ordered a smørbrød which is just an open faced sandwich with cheese, salmon, jam, and sardines, and I ordered the fruit soup. (13) It was still light out, so we went fishing in the Oslo fjord, a common pastime for locals.(14) When it got dark, Abby and I put our parkas on. (20)It’s so chilly in Norway! The next morning, we visited the JAKOB Culture Church to see a theatrical performance. (17) It was so cool! Next we went to the Norwegian Folk Museum. It is one of Europe’s largest open air museum. It had from art and handcrafted items to weapons and toys, although it was super expensive to get into. $85 for the both of us? YIKES! (16) We took a detour and went to the Akershus Castle. Made in 1299 and it also served as a fortress in 1592. (15)The halls were magnificent and the furniture, while very old, still gorgeous. We even saw Margaret Berger there! (10)Everybody was crowding around the Norwegian Idol singer. We tried to get a picture with her, but there were too many people. Sorry guys! We took a diversion to Sognsvann Lake on our way home. A ton of kids were swimming in it, even though the water was freezing! (5) On the way to the hotel, we walked across this small bridge and saw the waterfall at Mølla.(18) It was spectacular, except a little bit of the water splashed and soaked Abby’s jacket. We grabbed our gear from the hotel and took the overnight train to Stavanger. (2) (4) We got to see the nature along Norway’s southern coast. (5) After racing to our hotel, we jumped on a ferry (3) to hike to Pulpit Rock, or as the Norwegians know it as, Preikestolen. (19) At the top, we met some people from Bergen (2), who were talking about what they were doing for Constitution Day, May 17th.(12) Abby and I were wondering why they were discussing it so early, when it was only November. They said Constitution Day was the day Norwegians declared its independence from Denmark in 1814. They were making a float to present in the parade across Norway. We thought that was so cool! After seeing the gorgeous view, we went back to the hotel for a nap time. Traveling is so tiresome! Tomorrow, we are going to Bergen. Farvel!
